USO DE LOS VERBOS “SAY” Y “TELL”.
Aunque a simple vista tanto “say” como “tell” significan decir o hablar. No se utilizan de la misma forma. Como se puede notar en el video, cuando utilizamos el verbo tell, después escribimos la persona a la que se le habla
Ejemplos
He told me he hated me
Y con “say” esto no es necesario
He said he hated me.
Cuando queremos poner a quién se le habla utilizando “say,” necesitamos también de la preposición “to”.
She said to Anna what she should have said to Jessica
Además, “Tell” al ser un poco más formal, también se utiliza para dar instrucciones
Ejemplo:
Please, tell him everything about it.
o para pedir información
Ejemplo:
Could you tell me what was last night’s homework?
“Tell” también se utiliza para lo referente al tiempo
Ejemplos:
Could you tell me what time is it?
Juana told me the date of her event
“Tell” se utiliza también para veracidad
Ejemplos:
He didn’t tell me the truth
Marian tells lies all the time
Y, por último, para anécdotas o chistes, también utilizamos “tell”.
